Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your (OLD)self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, to be made (NEW IN THE ATTITUDE)of your minds; and to put on the(NEW SELF), created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Happy New Year!!! I don't know about you, but as I celebrate the first day of another new year I find my mind wondering to a list of "short term" goals, spring cleaning, pondering what I can "live with out" that is nicely organized in the garage(or was, that's on my list too, re-organize the garage) and how I can live better for 2012. But I also found my self pondering this verse this morning and realized that I need take a "Spiritual Inventory" and really think about cleaning house on the "Old attitudes" I still hold on to. There are places in my old man that I still have not confronted or cleaned out. Things that I have not made new in the "Attitude of my MIND". One of those things is actually "self-loathing". Shocked? Well don't be. Its not like I hate myself or anything like that but what I am talking about is this:
You know those times when you look in the mirror after you get out of the shower and you start criticizing this about your body or that and, oh yeah, that too. Well in truth, this is actually self -loathing. And then there is the part about being Covetous. You know, the part where you start comparing your body to someone Else's or even every body Else's, wishing you could look like that! These things are Sin!! Plain and simple, period.
I continually deceive myself every time I do not embrace the amazing truth of Psalm 139:13-14 that states God created my inmost being and even knit, (embroidered) me in my mothers womb. My Bible knowledge Commentary states that this "embroidery" suggests veins and arteries. In this Psalm David Praises God because he was fearfully and wonderfully made. Now, when I look in the mirror, am I praising God. Nope. And not only am I not praising Him I am not thanking Him either. I am basically telling Him he made a mistake or didn't make me right. Ummm, He's God, He's perfect and HE does not make mistakes!! How's that for a little humble pie.(go ahead, eat up, its calorie free)
So now that I've chewed and swallowed my pie and can seek forgiveness and repent. I need to ask God to forgive me for not being thankful for this amazing form he has given me, and ask that he forgive me for thinking he's made a mistake. And, I get to take full responsibility for how I have treated this body He has given me and most likely ask for forgiveness for that too! Whew....I am so glad that our God is merciful and loves us without limits.
Here is another thing to consider. When we are looking at some one else, who we wished we looked like, what do you think the expressions on our faces are like or where do our eyes go? When we start embracing the design God has given us we can look at others with love, joy and acceptance.
So today is a day of new beginnings. It is the day to be made new in the attitude of my mind, put on the new me, created to be like God, in true righteousness and holiness.
LORD, I want to thank you for who you made me to be, the body you have given me and the amazing purpose that you have for these things. I pray that all who read this are blessed with truth and peace, love and joy and acceptance for who and how you made them. In Jesus name, AMEN!
